It’s that time of year in the US again when those who never follow college basketball and those who know every vital stat are glued to their TVs watching the endless basketball action throughout the day today and the rest of this month. Most people are simply watching to see if their picks are correct on the bracket they made, while others are captivated by all the attention a single sporting event can generate.
Players from over 64 teams will compete, all with high emotions as they’ve reached a pinnacle in their lives and careers. Some of them have lived their whole life practicing, thinking about, and never losing sight of the goal of playing in a major basketball tournament. Some will go on to play in the NBA and continue their successes, while others will reminisce their time on such a big stage and remember it for the rest of their lives. Many of these players are from low-income families and the opportunities provided by this tournament and the basketball programs they are involved in is something invaluable. They are truly living their dream by participating in this tournament, regardless of the result.
While we all watch and enjoy the madness that ensues, it helps to reflect back on our own lives and remember what goals we have. The goals we’re out to accomplish, the dreams we’re pursuing, and making sure we keep living our lives towards these ends. Because even though there may only be “one shining moment”, we want to make sure it’s a good one and something we can cherish for the rest of our lives like the players of this tournament will.
Are you taking steps to reach the goals in your life?
